According to various sources, we get to know that brucellosis now has a new way to be treated. There is a new therapy which has been developed to fight against brucellosis, says a source. Brucellosis is a disease, rather an infection which humans can contract from animals and that too under conditions which are normal as well. On an annual basis around half a million folks across the globe contract the infection.

When research as carried out using this study on mice, it was shown that the infection was significantly brought down using the new method. Not much has worked in the favor of the traditional ways of healing folks who suffer from brucellosis, even though they were given antibiotics for the same and for free as well. The treatment used with traditional ways was for short term and not long term, says a source.

Even though brucellosis may not be taken away by the use of many antibiotics available today, and the relapses for the same amongst humans could be high, one can still now safely conclude the use of antibiotics for short term could be the best way to solve the issue, say doctors. When you treat yourself for brucellosis, you need to have combined therapy done on you along with standard treatment doses as well, says a source.

There is an alternative treatment available say doctors who specialize in brucellosis treatments. This alternative treatment would be transporting the antibiotic gentamicina. When the antibiotic, gentamicina is transferred to the cells which are infected, with the help of particles that are biodegradable, they can produce higher amounts of concentrated antibiotics within and help the infected organs at large, say doctors.

What happens here is that the systems which are used and are biodegradable would be made in such a way so that the release of the antibiotic happens in a manner which is controlled. This in turn would allow the levels of therapy with regard to the antibiotics administered to bring down the dosages required, says a source.

There has been a significant learning from this research, say doctors, where there has been seen a level of reduction significantly with the spleen pathogens when the study was conducted on mice. This is a step and a boon to see if the same therapy can be applied successfully on humans or not, says a source.

In developing nations and third world countries, brucellosis along with other viral infections such as meningitis and TB are frequent cases to be found around. Mostly they are accompanied by chills in the body, fever, weakness and muscle pains as well, which would also include mild to heavy headaches and sweating too. When the bacteria takes over the bloodstream there are many tissues and even organs within the human body, which can be infected. The most infected organs due to brucellosis would be the spleen, the liver, bones and the lungs, sometimes even the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM, even the heart and all of this could mean a game of death as well for the unfortunate ones.

A good famous heart food diet is the Mediterranean diet which focus on vegetables, fresh fruits, whole gains, healthy fats and adequate quantities of spices.

About Mediterranean diet

Fresh fruit and vegetables: 10 portions of fruit and vegetables is daily required as this type of food is full of nutrients and antioxidant qualities, so in this diet snacks can be replaced with carrots, apples and bananas for example.

Carbohydrates: refined carbohydrates can be replaced by whole-grain breads, cereals, rice and pasta, food with saturated fats such as deep fried food and red meat, sausage, needs to be disposed, and replaced by portions of chicken and fresh fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel, oil and butter should be replaced by olive oil.

Nuts and seeds: are important to get healthy oil.

Sodium foods: should be decreased by using low quantities of Sault, or by replacing it with certain spices that gives food special taste.

 Diabetes and erectile dysfunction

As diabetes affects the blood vessels, it increases the risk of erectile dysfunction and sometimes can cause the penis nerve to be damaged.

According to studies 500 men with diabetes participated a Mediterranean diet has excellent results of lower prevalence of erectile dysfunction especially for those who were adhering following the diet. ( study published in -Journal of Sexual Medicine –issue, research conducted by a team from the University of Naples, Italy ).

Food studies

It’s widely known that some types of food such as oysters, scallops, olives, chocolate, anchovies and chilies can be helpful for men suffering from erectile dysfunction, as they say that these food can enhance sexual desire, but according to a research team in the university of Malaysia it didn’t confirm any benefits concerning this issue (ED).

Advices concerning erectile dysfunction

Diets should be supervised by qualified center, so that it could help you in erectile dysfunction.

Having a system of sport and having a healthy and energetic life style which maintains and keeps you on optimal weight helps in preventing erectile dysfunction.

Measles or rubella is a contagious disease that is caused by a virus. Measles is spread through contact with nose, mouth or throat droplets found in the air when an infected person coughs and sneezes. Anyone can contract measles; accept for those who have been vaccinated, or who have an active measles infection.

Measles was once very common in childhood where most people became sick from it by age 20. This was controlled with widespread vaccination over the past few decades. However there has been a rise in measles cases in cities like Dublin and Ireland that has lead to deaths, neurological complications and severe pneumonia in some cases.

It is the increase in non-vaccinated children and young adults that is linked to this increase in measles cases. This is why the Health Protection Surveillance Center has prompted parents to get MMR vaccination for their child, if they have missed it.

There are some parents who don’t get their children vaccinated for measles as they fear that the MMR vaccine, given for protection against measles, mumps and rubella, can lead to autism. However research has proven that there is no connection between the vaccine and autism.

Symptoms

The symptoms manifest itself after 8-12 days of exposure to the virus. The common symptoms are cough, fever, muscle pain, runny nose, sore throat, irritation of eyes, bloodshot eyes, rashes and light sensitivity.

The rashes generally appear within 3-5 days of falling sick, and last for 4-7 days. These rashes appear as flat, discolored areas and solid, raised areas that later join together. The rashes are generally itchy, and start at the head and spreads to the other areas, moving downwards.

Diagnosis and treatment

Measles is usually diagnosed by its symptoms. However sometimes a measles serology may be performed, and in rare cases, a viral culture. There is nothing specific for treating measles. Medicine like acetaminophen may be given for relief from symptoms, along with bed rest and humidified air.

Children, especially in less developed countries who don’t get sufficient vitamin A may require vitamin A supplements to reduce the risk of death and complications. In fact, people suffering from a vitamin A deficiency are susceptible to infections, including measles.

Complications

There are some possible complications of measles like encephalitis, pneumonia, bronchitis and ear infection, which is why you have to consult your health care provider once you or your child has measles symptoms.

Prevention

Routine immunization is the best preventive measure for measles. People who are not immunized, and who have not received full immunization are at highest risk of contracting the disease.

It is however possible to reduce the risk of developing malaria, or at least make the attack less severe by taking serum immune globulin within 6 days of exposure to the virus.

Once in the body, the parasite multiplies in the liver before infecting red blood cells.

Malaria is transmitted by the female Anopheles mosquito, which is infected after biting an infected person. On biting an infected person, a small amount of blood containing microscopic malaria parasites enters the mosquito. A week later, when the same mosquito bites another person, the parasites mix with the mosquito’s saliva and are injected into the victim.

As malaria parasite is found in red blood cells, it can also be transmitted through organ transplant, blood transfusion and sharing of needles and syringes. An infected mother can also transmit malaria to her unborn infant before or during pregnancy.

Symptoms

Malarial symptoms include headache, muscle pain, tiredness, chills, fever, tiredness, diarrhea, vomiting and nausea. Sometime, the loss of red blood cells may also lead to anemia and jaundice.

All malarial symptoms manifest itself 10 – 15 days after the mosquito bite and if not treated, can lead to life-threatening consequences by disrupting blood supply to vital organs. In fact, if Plasmodium falciparum induced malaria is not promptly treated, it can lead to kidney failure, coma, seizures, mental confusion and even death.

Diagnosis

Microscopy and nucleic acid amplification tests are generally performed to diagnose malaria. These tests require well-equipped laboratories; so where this is not available, malaria is diagnosed based on the patient’s symptoms. However this can lead to a misdiagnosis of the condition, and consequent prescription of unnecessary and expensive medication.

Treatment

Once diagnosed, malaria is treated using antimalarial drugs and medications to control its other symptoms like fever, fluids. Even electrolytes and perhaps anti seizure medications may be prescribed, if required.

It is based on the severity of the disease and likelihood of chloroquine resistance that the type of medication is chosen for treating malaria. Chloroquine, doxycycline, atovaquone, quinidine and mefloquine are the drugs most commonly used for treating malaria.

As people suffering from falciparum malaria have the most severe symptoms, they may have to be monitored in the intensive care unit of a hospital in the first few days of treatment.

In case of pregnant women, chloroquine is usually used for treating malaria and in cases where there is chloroquine resistance; the doctor may prescribe quinine, clindamycin and proguanil for treating malaria.

Lately, a Japanese company has launched a long lasting mosquito net that is environment friendly, and customized to provide its user with protection from malaria for five years. These nets are available at the local supermarket while plans are on way to produce cheaper nets in the market to make it affordable to low income earners, who are most affected by malaria menace.

E. coli O157:H7 is a gram-negative bacterium responsible for food borne and waterborne illnesses. Most of the strains are safe and are found in the intestines of every healthy human and animals yet this one may produce a toxin that may lead to severe illness. This non-pathogenic E Coli may cause severe illness if it spreads outside of the intestine like urinary tract (bladder or kidney infection) or in the bloodstream. There are other forms of E Coli which may even lead to poisoning or diarrhea even if they do not spread outside the intestine because they produce toxins and lead to intestinal inflammation within the intestine.

When was it recognized?

E. coli O157:H7 came in view during an outbreak of infection caused by an intake of contaminated burgers and resulted in severe infection. Thus, after that outbreak E. Coli was believed to originate from eating undercooked ground beef. However this view was challenged in 1999 when contaminated water resulted in sickness in New York and even swimming was a cause of its occurrence. Thus, it is now believed that E.Coli is an airborne and waterborne disease.

Incubation period

Thus, E. coli 0157:H7 bacteria secrete toxins that produce a bloody diarrhea because of the infected human intestines. It takes 3 to 5 days or even 10 days for the incubation period for the symptoms.

Symptoms

The infection will lead to a low fever of about 101F, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and stomach cramps. It may affect both children and adults leading to additional complications like anemia, renal failure, and organ failure, dehydration especially in children and mental changes in older people. Generally the infection gets resolved within 5 to 7 days. But in some cases the signs become severe. Thus, it may require immediate medication and the patient must be hospitalized else it may lead to disability or death. Thus, if the patient becomes dehydrated or anemic or develops Hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS) or Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) he must be hospitalized and treatment must become as soon as possible.

Preventive measures

But definitely prevention is better than cure. Vaccine is not available for humans. So one should eat well cooked food especially hamburgers and drink pure or pasteurized water. Contaminated food by animal or human waste may be avoided an intake to avoid E.Coli from developing.
